NCCSA Certification

The North Carolina Chimney Sweep Association's Certification Program has one of the highest standards in the chimney service industry. Our Certification Program is designed exclusively for the working sweep.

The applicant must pass a two-part written test with a minimum score of 80%. The first part of the test is on the National Fire Protection Association's Standard 211, which pertains to Chimneys, Fireplaces, Vents, and Solid Fuel Burning Appliances.

The second part of the test is on the North Carolina Building Codes: Volume III (Mechanical) and VII (Residential).

The applicant must also bring his/her equipment to the test site. The equipment is visually evaluated while the applicant is orally tested by a panel of examiners.

Once certified, sweeps must renew their certification every three years to assure that they are knowledgeable of revisions to National and State Codes in this rapidly changing industry.

When choosing a company to service or repair your chimney or venting system, look for our "Certified" logo. This is the benchmark of a quality chimney professional in our state.

While certification is no guarantee of quality, it assures you, the consumer, that the chimney sweeps you hire have been tested on their knowledge of the codes and possess the proper equipment to perform their task in a professional manner.
